Fuel polishing project restores contaminated diesel at equestrian stables
A fuel recovery and tank cleaning project carried our by Sentinam has successfully restored 1,000 litres of contaminated diesel at Whitland Equestrian Stables.
The issue came to light after concerns were raised about fuel quality. Laboratory testing showed the diesel had an ISO 4406 cleanliness code of 22/20/16 and a free water content of 0.61%, placing it in the “very poor” category under BS2869 guidance and creating a significant risk of blocked filters and injector damage.
To recover the fuel, Sentinam deployed its GT Portable Fuel Filtration System. The compact unit’s portable and quiet operation proved particularly important in the stable environment, allowing work to be carried out close to horses with minimal disruption.
The recovery process involved bulk water removal followed by a high-performance kidney-loop filtration cycle. After approximately three hours of treatment, fuel cleanliness improved to an ISO code of 18/16/12, bringing it within the requirements for use in modern diesel-powered agricultural and utility equipment.
Adrian Hemingway, owner of Whitland Equestrian Stables, said: “The improvement in fuel quality was clear, and we now have total confidence that our stored diesel is fit for purpose. This service will significantly reduce maintenance issues across our fleet.”
The project highlights the growing importance of fuel monitoring, contamination control and fuel polishing in protecting equipment reliability and extending the life of stored fuel.
